| June 15 Update on Crash of Mission Aircraft in Congo | ||||||||||||
Information from both the family of missionary-pilot Jacques Umembudi and Bishop David K. Yemba of Central Congo confirms that there were no life-threatening injuries in the crash of a small mission plane at an airstrip near Lodja, Democratic Republic of Congo, on June 12. Mr. Umembudi and passengers were transferred to Kinshasa for examination. The pilot sustained an injury to the head, but numerous scans and tests indicated no internal damage. He will require a period of rest. His wife, missionary Poto Valentine Shutsha, was with him in the hospital. Four unidentified passengers were released without treatment. Bishop Yemba, who leads the Central Congo Area of The United Methodist Church, visited Mr. Umembudi in the hospital. The bishop expressed appreciation to the many people who have offered prayers for the pilot and the passengers of the small plane. The aircraft is insured through the General Board of Global Ministries. See also: All Aboard Survive Mission Plane Accident in DR Congo.
