"Beyond These Walls" Mission Conference

Powder Springs, GA, July 29, 2008--The General Board of Global Ministries will offer three workshops at an early October mission conference hosted in Powder Spring, Georgia, by McEachern Memorial United Methodist Church.

"Beyond These Walls," October 2-4, 2008, is sponsored by a coalition of congregations and organizations, including Global Ministries. Information on the event and registration can be found on its website at www.missionconference.org.

The Global Ministries workshops are:

  • Advancing Hope: The Advance and United Methodist Mission, led by Adam Neal, mission specialist with The Advance. It focuses on The Advance for Christ and His Church, the designated mission giving program of the church, as a vital partner with congregations in global mission.
  • In Mission Together Partnership: Taking It to the Next Level, led by Dick Arnold, consultant to Global Ministries for an effort that has built 30 vibrant partnerships between congregations in the US and churches in Eastern Europe and the Balkans area. One focus is on how such partnerships can transform the US-based congregations.
  • Global Church Planting: The United Methodist Mission Initiatives, led by the Rev. Patrick Friday of the Global Ministries staff, with an emphasis on the exciting pioneer evangelism under way in 17 countries through the mission agency.

A great many other workshops will cover various expressions of mission and Christian witness.

Keynote speakers for the conference include the Rev. Mike Slaughter of Ginghamsburg United Methodist Church, Tripp City, Ohio, who addressed the directors of the General Board of Global Ministries last March; the Rev. Dr. John Ed Mathison, pastor of Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church, Montgomery, Alabama; and Dr. Eddie Fox, executive director of the World Methodist Evangelism Institute.

Registration is $75.00 prior to September 1; late registration is $85.00. Housing is available at a local Holiday Inn (see http://www.mceachernumc.org/missionsconference/registration.html
