2010 Mission Travel Study to Haiti: Mission, Education, and Advocacy for Haiti |
|||||||||||
You are invited to join the Global Ministries Mission Travel Study to Haiti this fall. The study is in preparation for the 2011 mission study theme on Haiti, offered by and for United Methodist Women and the worldwide United Methodist Church. Participants will visit members of the Haitian-US community in Florida and the Dominican Republic before traveling to Haiti. The travel study experience from November 9-19, 2010, will include an in-depth look into the Haitian Diaspora. Two months before the trip, participants will investigate the history, pray with and for the people of Haiti, the Methodist Church in Haiti, and the Haitian Diaspora. Participants will learn about the country, particularly around ministries related to the alleviation of poverty. In Haiti, individuals will learn from Methodist church projects, people, and partners who are reaching out to make a positive difference by accessing clean water, food, sanitation, shelter, education, and health for the people of Haiti. Upon their return home, participants will commit to raising awareness and support for the Haitian community right where they live. The Mission Travel group will be smaller and the studies more rigorous than in previous mission trips. Due to logistic limitations of travel in Haiti since the January 12, 2010, earthquake, the group size will be limited to under a dozen people. Preference will be given to applicants who have less international travel experience and to people who are applying from a variety of geographical areas, as well as representatives from all five United Methodist jurisdictions within the United States. The approximate cost of the trip is $1,900. The due date for applications is July 16th. To learn more, please download the brochure, the application, and covenant of support forms:
