New York, NY, November 4, 2009--November 20 is the deadline for receiving applications and nominations with resumes for the position of chief executive (general secretary) of the international mission agency of The United Methodist Church. "The search process begun on September 21 is well under way," said Bishop Bruce R. Ough of West Ohio, president of the General Board of Global Ministries. "We are developing a pool of candidates and will soon begin to move into the review phase." For two more weeks, applications and nominations accompanied by resumes may be sent to the outside firm assisting with the search. Such material should ideally be submitted via email to Joyce Lapenn at jslapenn@aol.com. (The mailing address is: PO Box 368, Hillsdale, NY 12529.) The review of candidates and the selection of a final nominee will be handled by a 13-member committee of Global Ministries' directors, co-chaired by Bishop Ough and Dr. Maggie Jackson, a university professor in Cleveland, who chairs the agency's personnel committee. An announcement of the position opening is online at Global Mission Agency Seeks New Chief Executive. The General Board of Global Ministries engages in a broad range of mission outreach and humanitarian services around the world. It has personnel, projects, and partners in more than 130 countries. Bishop Joel N. Martinez (retired), who was president of the board for eight years, ending in late 2008, is serving as interim general secretary following the resignation in late August of the Rev. Ed Paup. The goal is to have a new general secretary in place early in 2010.
