Daniel and Lisa Godwin, missionaries of the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church, share news of how various mission work teams from the United States contribute to the life of the church in Ecuador. We were blessed with four more great mission work teams from the Alabama-West Florida conference last summer. Trinity United Methodist Church from Prattville, Alabama added the roof to the new dorm of the Methodist camp and tiled the floor in the old dorm. A team from the Demopolis District of west Alabama rebuilt the home of one of our pastors in Quevedo. The house was in disrepair and the team did an excellent job of giving the family a home that they deserve. It has made a tremendous difference in the their quality of their lives and for the self esteem of the ten family members who share this small home - not to mention a great Vacation Bible School for nearly 100 children! A work team from Dauphuin Way, Mobile, and Lyn Haven United Methodist Church, Panama City expanded the sanctuary; poured the floor; and put a new roof on Pastora Irlana’s church in El Esfuerzo. The team also conducted Vacation Bible School and left many supplies for the children. The final team came in the Fall. They were from Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church, Gulf Breeze Florida (the second team from our home church). They painted the old dorm and main meeting hall at the Methodist camp, and installed a new gate for the entrance. It all looks so clean and inviting. They also had the opportunity to work with children of the church and community of Santo Domingo de Los Colorados. Those six teams represented a total of 69 people and $12,850 in construction funds, plus an unbelievable amount of encouragement for the Methodist Churches surrounding communities in Ecuador. The Ecuador staff and support team are to be commended for the untiring energy and care they provided each team. Edwin Contreras, a civil engineer, oversaw purchasing the materials and carefully supervised the sites. Nanny Cobo worked with us to provide logistical plans for transportation, lodging, meals, and recreation (not to mention translation). Dr. Roberto Contreras and his wife, Monica, provided medical care and fiscal accountability. Mindy Hicks and Christy Watkin, our summer interns, did a wonderful job. They all bring a true representation of servant hood in every facet of their participation. Thanks to each of you who came and gave of your time, gifts and talents - and shared your love, hugs and smiles.
