Hand-bound journals made from recyled cement bags at Haitian Artisans for Peace International.
Artisans have been expressing gratitude in spite of their horrific experiences. They are grateful to be alive. They are grateful to God for giving them strength. They are grateful for the gift of hope. We can follow their example by keeping a gratitude journal! On the very paper that symbolizes their rebuilding, you can write down ways you too are grateful!

Special Day: Jurirat and Sompap's wedding blended cultures and holidays and was the first performed in Bowin United Methodist Church making it unique and memorable.
The first wedding at the Bowin United Methodist Church near Bangkok, Thailand, took place on Valentine's Day, blending Christian and traditional Thai cultures in ways common to many mission settings. It fell on Chinese New Year, a major festival in Thailand.

Bishop Joel Martinez delivered the address Bishop Bruce Ough had prepared for the memorial service held in remembrance of Sam Dixon and Clint Rabb.  Weather prevented Bishop Ough and several others from participating in or attending the service.
don't know about you, but I have reached my tragedy quota. I don't know how you are handling the bombardment of tragedy and death we have been exposed to, but I have reached my limit. The people of Haiti are devastated. They are broken in heart and body. They join an ever- increasing litany of desperate and defeated, poor and powerless, people around the globe. Port-au-Prince and surrounding communities lie in ruins.

Rev. Jim Gulley, UMCOR consultant and survivor of the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti, recounts his story of being trapped under the rubble with Rev. Dr. Sam Dixon and Rev. Clint Rabb.
Amid numerous calls to embrace with renewed vigor the baptismal commitment to mission, hundreds of colleagues, friends, ecumenical partners and family members celebrated the lives of Rev. Samuel W. Dixon, Jr., and Rev. Clinton C. Rabb in a memorial service this afternoon at Riverside Church in New York City.

The United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries has joined the chorus of religious organizations asking the Philippines government for the humane treatment and quick release of a group of health workers, including a church- related doctor, arrested on February 6 and detained on what appear to be trumped up charges.

"Alive, alive, alive forevermore! My Jesus is alive, alive forevermore." Each night I sit in my living room and listen to my 2 ½-year-old nephew sing this song at the top of his lungs. He has lived with me for 15 months now and has taught me so much about what it means to have childlike faith.

While going through a deep personal experience of dealing with her grandson's addiction, Jewell Meringer at times felt all alone. "I'd go to church and felt like I was alone," said Meringer, a member of Snellville United Methodist Church in Georgia. "I wasn't hearing from other people about addiction."

On January 21, 2010, the US government extended "Temporary Protective Status" (TPS) to Haitians. This status permits eligible Haitian nationals to stay and work in the US for 18 months. Eligible Haitians are those who have resided continuously in the US since January 12, 2010, and have been physically present since January 21, 2010.

Jong Sung Kim, (far left) Global Ministries' executive, thanks representatives from First United Methodist Church of Flushing Queens for the church's gift of $63,000 to UMCOR Haiti.

On February 1, 2010, the First United Methodist Church of Flushing, Queens, gave $60,000 to UMCOR relief efforts in Haiti. Church parishioners gave about $45,000 through a special offering, and the church gave the rest.

Word was received directly from five students and from family connections in one case.
