ideas of sorrow, rebellion, and repentance. But
Jesus opens a new angle on fasting in Matthew,
reminding us that pursuing God--and not merely
the trappings of worship--remains an ever-
changing, God-centered process. As Jesus
addresses the crowd, he encourages holiness and
challenges hubris, reminding them that they live
in community and belong to a great story.

socially and economically, life is unstable.
Even the ability to have a work day often
revolves around the presence or absence of
electricity. Crime has risen, the inflation rate
is soaring, and it seems there is no solution in
sight.

budget by $3.9 million, or seven percent, because
of a combination of economic factors.

New York, NY, February 20, 2009--Several weeks
ago, Felix was admitted to the Maua Methodist
Hospital, in Maua, Kenya, with severe
tuberculosis. Felix weighed 20 pounds and was
three feet tall. He was nine years old.
Missionary Jerri Savuto sat by Felix's bedside,
watching him gasp for breath.

Fuller, who was instrumental in founding Habitat
for Humanity in 1976, died at his home near
Americus on January 3 at the age of 74. He was

February 6, 2009--Kinew's little fingers
worked ambitiously to unravel the knot securing
the brightly wrapped shoebox. At last, the knot
was free and Kinew, filled with anticipation,
opened up the box. Just then a huge smile spread
