Aug. 27, 2008 (UMNS)--United Methodist Bishop David Kekumba Yemba has been re-elected to oversee the church's Central Congo Area after four years of service.

With his re-election, he is now a bishop for life.

House we found in 2002.

The beautiful grandmother with a radiant smile was seated outside her home. Inside the small wooden shack was an uneven dirt floor covered with rags to sleep on and walls covered in black plastic to keep out the cold and rain. Despite the plastic covering, there were still big gaps between the planks of wood that allowed cold air to whistle through. In one corner was a small fire that still had a few red coals. In another corner were some green bananas.

ministry in Zimbabwe, Africa.

This is historically appropriate, and many United Methodists today are excited about deaf ministries and communicating through sign language. One place of such enthusiasm is the General Board of Global Ministries.

(ORLANDO, Fla., August 2, 2008/GBOD)--When searching for pastors to start new congregations, conventional wisdom is, perhaps, best kicked to the curb.

According to a Congregational Development Think Tank convened by United Methodist church leaders, the best candidates are people who are perceived as troublemakers, egotistical, nonconformist, and don't like to spend time in their offices. People with these characteristics could be [church] planters.

More than eight hundred men, women, and children huddle next to each other every evening, trying to find a warm place to sleep. Finally, they have found a welcome home where they are protected from the struggles that refugees face as they try to find a new life.

Each year 4 million children in China drop out of school because their parents can't afford school fees and books. The problem is amplified for girls and children with disabilities. The Amity Foundation gives priority to helping these children return back to school.
On the eve of the Beijing Olympic Games, the mission agency of The United Methodist Church launched a new website on the work of the denomination in China. "Churches in China are among the fastest growing in the world today," the introduction to the site states, citing statistics indicating that three new Protestant churches or meeting places open every two days.
