The top court of The United Methodist Church has ruled that the denomination's legislative body would need to enact enabling legislation in 2012 to change the church's structure in the United States. The Judicial Council, in its first meeting since the election of five new members last spring, also remanded two cases on key issues—church membership and same-gender marriages—back to their respective conferences, citing an absence of official documentation needed to decide the cases.

These Sunday School teachers in Mongolia won't be leading boring classes!

The teachers were excited! And I could see that there is a bright future for Mongolia!

On one clear Saturday, nearly 100 teachers and prospective teachers from the three United Methodist congregations in Ulaanbaatar (Gerelt, Chingeltei, and Damba) gathered for a Sunday school teachers' seminar led by Jodi Cataldo, a Global Ministries staff member.

A work team rebuilds a hurricane-damaged home in the Cuban province of Pinar del Rio. The United Methodist Committee on Relief has made some progress toward obtaining the U.S. Treasury Department licenses required to allow the denomination to assist hurricane survivors in Cuba, according to the Rev. Sam Dixon, head of UMCOR. Dixon reported on the progress Oct. 15 to the relief agency's board of directors, meeting in Stamford, Conn.
The United Methodist Committee on Relief has made some progress toward obtaining the U.S. Treasury Department licenses required to allow the denomination to assist hurricane survivors in Cuba.

Mary Watson is a United Methodist pastor’s wife, a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and businesswoman whose life and witness embodies the Great Commission. To make disciples of Jesus Christ is her joy; may I say, her passion. She and her husband, the Rev. Families and friends who love someone addicted to alcohol or other drugs have experienced emotional pain that only another who has been in the same place can understand. One who has never experienced loving and being loved by an addict might say, "Why don't you just leave them?" But would this be a valid solution if the afflicted person had cancer or diabetes? No, of course not.

My name is Carolyn, and I am an alcoholic. My sobriety date is March 28, 1985. I am 64 years old and I am still quite active in Alcoholics Anonymous as well as Al-Anon.* In fact, my Al- Anon anniversary is April 1, 1986. It is my firm belief that if it were not for Al-Anon, I would not have been able to stay sober. My membership in Al-Anon has been that crucial in my recovery. Let me tell you briefly why this is so.

Jeremias França is a missionary serving as Administrator of Chicuque Rural Hospital in his home country of Mozambique.

Friends came from all over the world. Employees sang tirelessly as they escorted government dignitaries to the hospital. It was a time of joy. Chicuque Rural Hospital was celebrating 95 years of faithful service to God and to its community with a vision of hope for the future.
