When I was a little girl back in the early 50’s, I really didn’t know much about the season of Lent. However, I did know about Good Friday. We had the day off from school, and Dad didn’t have to go to work. When Mom woke us up, there weren’t any of the normal morning smells of coffee brewing or breakfast being prepared about the house. Instead, Dad was gathering his yard tools and Mom was getting groceries, bedding, and clothing together. We were preparing to go to our church, which was approximately 12 miles from where we lived.

As I reflect on my life, I ask how I got to this point. It is clear to me that business is no longer the same as usual. I am a born-again Christian who has been on this faith journey since October 1996 after a divorce and a miscarriage. I knew I could not continue on the same path that I was on. One of the themes for this week is God’s lavish love: a constant, persistent, and inexhaustible love that desires, searches, and joyously celebrates our return whenever we have strayed or wandered away. During our times of being lost, the knowledge that this abundant love is seeking us and ready to welcome us back can be a great source of comfort and hope.

Women's History Month is celebrated every year in March, though around the world, related events often begin in late February. During the celebration, women gather together to strategize action plans that both remember and focus upon the struggles of women everywhere.

Why is it necessary to have Women’s History Month? One reason is that, historically, women have not been accepted for leadership roles in the same manner as men.

I will always treasure her unconditional love, as well as her examples of a deep faith and hard work. I also think of my two daughters, who have given me many opportunities to follow my mother's example and share learning and experiences daily.

This year the geographic mission study for the Schools of Christian Mission will be Israel/Palestine. A man plays with his children in the Palestinian Beach Refugee Camp, Gaza.
The stories the Bible contains have helped peoples find strength, consolation, freedom, justice, mercy, love, and salvation. The Bible has been a part of proclaiming release to the captives, recovery of sight to the blind, and setting the oppressed free (Isaiah 61:1a, Luke 4:18b).

Hardly any one heard him cry and I was the only one that watched the tears flow down his cheeks. He came to my office to seek help, but his problem was too enormous for a simple clergyman like me to solve. He is a Palestinian citizen of Bethlehem who once had a small piece of land near Rachel's Tomb.

Along the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea lies a small, sandy piece of land known as the Gaza Strip. Conveniently located at the juncture of the major trade routes passing from the warm southern climes of Africa, the exotic spice countries of Asia, and the commercial centers of Europe, for thousands of years the area of Gaza had been a major trade center.
