In the beginning, the Korean American United
Methodist churches were refuges from Japanese
colonialism. They also provided spiritual
support for Christians and non-Christians. They
were all things to all Koreans; a “welcome
wagon,” one-stop service center for apartments,
jobs, schools, transportations, social services,
and immigration and legal aids, a “campus”
ministry, a place for social, civic and
political activities, a Korean food court, and
an educational/cultural center.
