Giving to United Methodist churchwide apportioned
funds rose 3 percent, $3.3 million, in 2000
according to the church's General Council on
Finance and Administration (GCFA.) The eight
funds, each of which saw an increase of 2-5
percent, finance most of the denomination's work
beyond the local congregations and the annual
(regional) conferences.

issue of child labor. In 1996, project director
Julia Dean proposed to send out 11 photographers
to very different places of the world to document
the story of the world's child labor force

The freighter Spirit of Grace will bring relief
supplies to hurricane victims in Central America
before it wraps up preparations for its trip to
help famine victims in North Korea, a director of
the relief effort said.

Thanks to those of you who have called, sent
email messages, and prayed for us here in
battered El Salvador. Carter and I and our friend
Brian (who had the bad luck to be visiting this
week!) are all together and fine after
yesterday's 7.6 scale earthquake that went from
Costa Rica to Mexico. Apparently, most of the
damage (and the epicenter of the earthquake) are
here in El Salvador.
