Nestor (far right) and Julienne Ndayiragije serve communion at Chapel Hill UMC, Portage, Michigan Founded more than 60 years ago, the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) began as a ministry to the refugees of World War II. That core function continues today with the work of UMCOR's Refugee Ministry office. Google+

I sent Patrick Friday an email, suggesting that we meet for breakfast in the cafeteria for a conversation about social media and mission. Patrick suggested, instead, we should chat, pray, and invite others to join us at a Google+ "hang out." A couple of emails later, Patrick and I logged on to Google+ for our "hang out," a four-way videoconference with Patti Bacher in De Pere, Wisconsin, and Mi Rhang Baek in Madison, Alabama.

Esther was one of several Haitian children who posed for Sandy Parsons. My experience in Haiti was most incredible. Our unique collection of team members included two cancer survivors, a victim of corporate downsizing, a recent corporate drop out, three fairly 'normal' individuals and a wild and crazy young woman. None of us (except our team leader) had any construction experience. As it turns out, we had the perfect mix!

Bishop Joel Martinez delivered the address Bishop Bruce Ough had prepared for the memorial service held in remembrance of Sam Dixon and Clint Rabb. Weather prevented Bishop Ough and several others from participating in or attending the service. don't know about you, but I have reached my tragedy quota. I don't know how you are handling the bombardment of tragedy and death we have been exposed to, but I have reached my limit. The people of Haiti are devastated. They are broken in heart and body. They join an ever- increasing litany of desperate and defeated, poor and powerless, people around the globe. Port-au-Prince and surrounding communities lie in ruins.
