Led by Methodist "Fighting Parson" 

Sand Creek Massacre Site The Sand Creek Massacre National Historical Site, a memorial to 150 Native Americans massacred in 1864 by troops led by a Methodist lay preacher, was dedicated on April 28, 2007. The Southern Cheyenne and Arapaho Indians were killed, many as they slept, by 700 Colorado militiamen led by the Col. John Chivington, a sometimes preacher, known as the "fighting parson." Most of those killed were women, children, and the elderly.

The Reverend R. Randy Day, General Secretary of the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church The chief mission executive of The United Methodist Church strongly protested the testing of a nuclear weapon by North Korea on October 8. “It is a deplorable act of aggression against the prospects of a more peaceful world,” said the Rev. R. Randy Day in a statement issued on the opening day of the annual meeting of directors of the church’s General Board of Global Ministries.
