God is at Work in Unmistakable Ways
I have just returned from almost seven months
in mission in Haiti. It is a time of joyous
homecoming, of sad separations, of rest and
recovery, of reflection and thanksgiving. I have
seen God at work in unmistakable ways. I have
been blessed to participate in the miraculous
and healing work of Christ. It has been amazing.

The Faces of Clean Water in Nicaragua
For untold years, women and children in Las
Mesas, Nicaragua, walked two miles each way to
get water. Grandmothers, mothers, and children
made this trip several times a day, every day--
walking in flimsy flip-flops across sharp rocks
and hard-baked soil. They were going to fetch 5-
gallon buckets of water, each filled bucket
weighing 40 pounds.

"Honey, Jesus Is at the Door Again"
Jesus keeps showing up at our back door
unannounced in the form of a 4'9" Mayan woman
with no front teeth. Jesus is going by the name
Isabel and has a deviously cute baby named Norma
slung over his back. You wouldn't believe how
loud Jesus knocks and how persistent he can be
with the door. The man, will simply not go away!
Let me be perfectly honest with you...Jesus is
really starting to tick me off!

Children Give to and for Children Through the Children's Fund for Christian Mission
These are just some of the ways that
teachers, parents, pastors, and kids in United
Methodist churches can join in the 2010
Children's Fund for Christian Mission. This
annual fund offers creative ways to capture and
build on children's natural enthusiasm for
learning about and caring for children in the
world through mission.

Relevance X Connects Youth with Mission
Are you ever hungry during church? Regardless
of whether I eat breakfast or skip it entirely
before the service, I am always hungry. This is
especially the case on Sundays when communion is
offered. Oddly, though, on these Sundays I am
never hungry after I take communion. There is
something quite literally filling about the
Eucharist--the Body of Christ--that sustains me.

Holy Week in Haiti
It was Tuesday morning. Since Palm Sunday I
have been experiencing Holy Week in a different
way from previous years. I have been preparing
for my first trip to Haiti, which is also my
first trip as Deputy General Secretary nominated
to lead the Mission and Evangelism Program of
Global Ministries. The trip to Haiti gave me a
special insight into Jesus' walk to the cross. I
saw His experience of death and resurrection re-
lived by the people of Haiti. I felt I was about
to meet Him again in the suffering of that
people.

How Prayer Angels Are Blessing La Gonave Island, Haiti
My husband and I have served as mission
volunteers on La Gonave Island, Haiti, since
2007. Few in the United States know that La
Gonave belongs to Haiti and is the most remote
area of the country. Southern La Gonave is 40
miles from the Haitian mainland on the windward
side--the area that gets hit by most of the
hurricanes but receives little of the normal
rainfall. Ground water there is deep or
nonexistent, so water accessibility is a problem
and food production is a challenge.

Plymouth First United Methodist Youth Fast for Change
March 26, 2010, Plymouth, Michigan--Instead of
breaking yolks, they decided to break yokes. Using
materials provided by The Advance's B1 campaign,
the youth of First United Methodist Church in
Plymouth, Michigan, raised over $5,400 to give to
the Kiev Street Children Ministry, Advance #14054A
and to the Haiti Emergency Fund, Advance # 418325
in response to the January earthquake.

Super Bowl Excellent Occasion to Help the Hungry
In terms of single-event viewership, it's the
biggest sporting event of the year in the US.
It's so big, the US government refers to it as
an unofficial American holiday. It generates
billions of dollars in economic activity. It's a
60-minute game that becomes a several-hours-long
telecast. It's the Super Bowl.

Saving Lives in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
Disheveled children of every age and size
crowded around our vehicle as it ground to a
stop in front of the United Methodist Mpasa
Reference Health Center in the Democratic
Republic of the Congo. It was in this sprawling
suburb of Kinshasa, DR Congo, that I was to
assess health facilities for the Central Congo
Conference. Dr. Rebecca Yohadi, the conference's
Chief Medical Officer, told me that the Mpasa
suburb sprang up in 1998 near a military
installation as a camp for displaced persons and
refugees.
