Deportation: A Personal Story An Interview with Felix Angel Méndez
My name is Felix Angel Méndez, and I am a
probationary pastor in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico,
assigned to a shelter that houses persons who
have been deported from the United States. They
can stay here while they find work to earn enough
money to return to their homes in Guadalajara,
Michiocan, or other parts of Mexico. Most of them
are here three or four weeks.

Missionary Minute: November 19, 2006
I haven’t always been a United Methodist. When I was
18, I attended a Methodist church in Mexico and
decided to accept God’s grace. I felt secure knowing
God was in my life. My response to God’s call to
ordination was a gradual process that began with an
indigenous child with whom I tried to minister.

that has stood by her in her battle to remain in
the United States and to raise her son - who is a
U.S. citizen - here.
"Here is an opportunity for a country that says
they care about children to care for a child,"
said United Methodist Bishop Minerva Carcaño, on
CNN's "Lou Dobbs Tonight" show Aug. 16.

Holiday: Honoring Cultures and Traditions
As the United States celebrates Thanksgiving, school children
are sent home with pictures of Pilgrims and Native Americans
sharing a feast in harmony.
However, for many indigenous women, Thanksgiving does not
hold such fond memories, says Andele Foutz. Foutz, is
executive director of the Navajo United Methodist Center in
Farmington, New Mexico, one of the national mission
institutions supported by United Methodist Women and the
denomination.

Treasurers on Earth: The Gospel of Prosperity
The “gospel of prosperity” is the belief that
God wants Christians
to be financially rich. It is promoted by many
conservative
evangelists, especially tel-evangelists. This
gospel appeals to
people from various incomes. It confirms to the
wealthy that
their wealth is proof God loves them, and that
it's OK to pursue
wealth, even to make it top priority. It appeals
to the poor
because it seems like a way out of poverty.

Holiday Season of Conscience -- End Child Labor Campaign
No one wants to purchase products made by
children, teenaged girls--or any workers--
stripped of their rights and forced to work long
hours in harsh sweatshop conditions under armed
guards for wages of 20-30¢ an hour. The people
of
the United States deserve the chance to raise
our
voices and affirm the dignity of life and human
rights over corporate indifference and greed.

Brothers and Sisters in Christ - A Volunteer in Mission Experiences the UM connection
Would I have ever chosen to fly 5783+ miles and
sit on a plane for 15+ hours? Would I just
choose to spend 1 ½ weeks on my knees in
sawdust, wood chips and bent nails, hammering
paneling onto a concrete wall? Would I choose
to be interrupted by a noisy bunch of children
who wanted to try out their skill at hammering a
nail? Would I have ever chosen to take only six
showers in two weeks? And then spend another 16
½ hours flying back home?
