Bearing Fruit in Cuba
By allowing the Spirit to move in creative
ways, the Methodist Church in Cuba is dancing,
singing, and spreading scriptural holiness over
the land. Since 1999, the church has grown from
8,000 to 36,000 members. Bishop Ricardo Pereira
encourages congregations to live out their
Wesleyan theology in ways that are uniquely
Cuban.

conversations with a goal of being more effective
partners in mission. The two-day meeting took
place in London at the British Methodist
headquarters. The United Methodist group was led
by Thomas Kemper, general secretary, who said it
had been a useful meeting and "showed the growing

Susanna Wesley House in Baltimore, Maryland: A Stable Foundation for Personal Growth
On a recent visit to Susanna Wesley House in
Baltimore, Maryland, three of the house's nine
housing units were found to be empty. This was a
positive sign. It meant that three families had
recently made a successful transition from
supportive housing to their own residences in the
community.

Change the World Through Interfaith Dialogue
Western Hills United Methodist Church in El
Paso, Texas, sought to answer this question in an
ordinary yet radical way--sitting down to dinner
with neighbors. While many churches saw the
Change
the World weekend as an opportunity to engage in
acts of Christian service, one group of Texas
churches led by Western Hills saw the event as a
chance to listen to and learn from Muslim
neighbors in partnership with the Institute of
Interfaith Dialogue/Turkish Raindrop House in El
Paso, Texas.

New Church Development in Vietnam
Twenty years ago, Karen and I had a dream
that has now become reality. The Lord laid on
our hearts a vision of bringing The United
Methodist Church to Vietnam. Having experienced
Methodism in the United States, we wanted to
take The United Methodist Church to the
Vietnamese people in our homeland.

Health, Wholeness, and the Church
"Healthy I am only when my family is also
well and healthy," said a teacher in Malawi. "I
am healthy only when I am at peace with my
fellow human beings and with creation," she
continued. "I am healthy when my relationship
with God is right. Being healthy means physical
and spiritual well-being." I think this teacher
is right, so I ask myself: "How healthy am I by
her criteria?" How healthy are my colleagues?
How healthy are our families...our
congregations...The United Methodist
Church...our world?

American Methodist Anniversary: From Baltimore into the Life Blood of a Nation
They rode from Baltimore in the first few
days of 1785, around 60 mostly young preachers
infused with missionary zeal and moving
confidently into the lifeblood of a new nation.
Over the previous nine days, they had organized
the first national Protestant denomination in
what was becoming--but was not quite yet--the
United States of America.
