 Lighthouse Care Center

At the Lighthouse Care Center, abandoned children are taught Christian principles, provided with food, receive an education, participate in recreational activities, and are given support to help them live positive and productive lives. Martin [not his real name] came to our Lighthouse Care Center when he got very hungry. His mother had left him when he was just a couple of years old. The boy lived with a mostly absent father. His father’s girlfriend was an alcoholic. When the father ended up in prison, the woman turned to prostitution, and Martin found himself on the streets of Tallinn, where he stole, drank, and smoked.

United Methodist summer camp is a joyful and relaxing place for children in Bratislava, Slovakia. The Provisional Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church in the Czech and Slovak Republics spans two countries, two governments, and two currencies. The conference operates with two districts, the Czech District and the Slovak District. The Czech District receives salary support from the government, which still compensates workers. The Slovak District is supported to a lesser degree by its government. Members tithe 10 percent of their income, and 10 percent of what comes from the congregations supports the district offices.
