What's so funny that the soldiers laugh?
This attached editorial by Amira Hass appeared in
today's Ha'aretz paper.
As roadblocks, sieges on towns and villages and
incursion in Palestinian-controlled areas
continue, it is solemn testimony to what happens
to the hearts of those sent to impose a curfew
and closure on millions of civilians.

A commentary: Please do not draw us into illusionary peace talks again
It seems that enough interest is there to start
another round of negotiations between the
Palestinian National Authority and the government
of Israel. Arafat expressed interest, Sharon
already established a negotiating team, and Blair
is visiting both and asserting the need to go
back to the negotiations table. On the other
hand, and while it is evident that the PNA is
doing its utmost to reduce the level of violence,
which might not be enough, Israel is escalating
its campaign of executions.

Church Council Faces Tough Times
As Cuban exiles and their former countrymen
loudly demonstrated over the fate of 6-year-old
Elian Gonzalez, one of those in the middle,
standing with the boy, was the Rev. Robert Edgar.
This was the same Robert Edgar who, as a
congressman and seminary president, built a
reputation for overcoming odds and turning
troubles around.

New Indonesia Bloodshed Could Hinder Donations for Sumatra Hospital
The latest Muslim-Christian bloodshed in
Indonesia could hinder plans to build a Methodist
hospital in Sumatra by making would-be donors shy
away from investing in the strife-ridden country,
according to the Rev. Dr. Robert Howerton of the
United Methodist General Board of Global
Ministries (GBGM).
