	Mission Study on "Israel-Palestine" Is Consistent with United Methodist Policy A comprehensive 1996 statement on Christian-Jewish relations by The United Methodist Church's legislating General Conference strongly reiterated the denomination's opposition to all forms of anti-Semitism. Four years later, the quadrennial General Conference, which is the only entity that speaks for the whole church, urged United Methodists to observe Yom HaShoah, the annual Holocaust Memorial Day, and also addressed Israeli-Palestinian relations in the Middle East. 	Arabic-language 'Upper Room' Editor Criticizes Mideast Policy U.S. policies in the Middle East would change if the Christian church, a "sleeping giant," would speak out in a loud voice against injustice and violence. 	Bishop Praises President Bush for Role in Mideast Cease-fire The president of the United Methodist Council of Bishops has written a letter to U.S. President George W. Bush, praising him for his leadership in bringing about a cease-fire between Israel and the Hezbollah militant group.
