A Full and Integrated Response to HIV/AIDS: Maua Methodist Hospital in Kenya
In 1928, British Methodist missionaries
founded Maua Methodist Hospital (MMH) in Maua,
Kenya--about a five-hour drive northeast of
Nairobi. As the only full-service hospital in
the region, today this 275-bed facility serves a
population of 700,000. My husband, Bill, and I
are United Methodist missionaries assigned to
the hospital. Bill provides technical support,
and I work with quality management. For many
reasons, we are thankful to be part of the
ministry here. Mindful of Matthew 25:35-40, the
hospital seeks to serve Jesus by caring for
neighbors in need.

two United Methodist “home missioners.”
Timothy P. Bodenstein of Keiffer, OK, and Kevin
M. Nelson, who grew up in Sherman, TX, hold an
office for laymen comparable to that of deaconess
for laywomen. The denomination approved the home

Bible Study: Prepare the Way of the Lord
“Prepare the way of the Lord...”
Matthew 3:3b
With these words, John began a short career proclaiming the
long-awaited Messiah was coming. His message was not new --
just delivered in a new way. People of his day recognized it as
the words of the Prophet Isaiah: “Prepare the way of the Lord.”

See All The People! Laity Sunday: 'One in Spirit, All in Ministry'
What a joy it is to be in church praying,
singing, and listening among our fellow
Christians! Indeed, it is comfortable and
comforting. In James 1:22, however, the people
of God are made less comfortable by these
words: "But be doers of the word and not merely
hearers who deceive themselves." (NRSV)

My Father's Gift: Celebrating Father's Day 2005
I often tell people that one of my DNA markers
is the cross and flame because The United
Methodist Church is so much a part of who I am.
And I got that DNA from my father. My father was
raised in the Methodist Episcopal Church with a
strong influence from the Evangelical United
Brethren.
