Emmanuel, God with us. Mathew 1:23

Dear Friends, On behalf of the General Board of Global Ministries, thank you for all you do to share God's love and light throughout the world. Through our work, together we are building a path that Isaiah prophesized--a radical path to liberation, peace, and justice. A path that is possible because of the birth of a small and helpless child. The light of the world lies in the hands of someone as powerless as a newborn baby.

A Student at the Asian Rural Institute enjoys the work that will help shape him into an effective leader. We continue to lift our brothers and sisters in Japan in prayer in the wake of the March 11 earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear threat in Japan. The General Board of Global Ministries and the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) are working with church organizations that continue a mission story that opened in 1873, the year the first Methodist missionary arrived in Japan.

March 20, 2011: Today at church we had a little under half the usual attendance, with most of the foreigners gone. We average between 60 to 70 people each week, and today had 28. There were no children; they had been evacuated or sent out of Tokyo on an early school break (the international schools are off March 21-25 for spring break anyway).
