38 missionaries from Latin America and the Caribbean gathered in Costa Rica for a regional mission personnel consultation.

New York, NY, September 28, 2009--The United Methodist Church will commission 32 missionaries and nine deaconesses and home missioners in an October 13 celebration that will be the first such service broadcast live on the internet.

London, September 1, 2009--The island nation of Fiji has been suspended from the British Commonwealth for refusing to move toward democratic elections next year, according to a report by the BBC on September 1. The Fijian political situation is of importance to the international Methodist community because the Methodist Church there is also at odds with the government.

Professor Meeli Tankler, new president of the Baltic Methodist Theological Seminary, was the unanimous choice of the board of trustees and of the Estonia Annual Conference.

Tallinn, Estonia--The 15th anniversary of the largest United Methodist theological seminary in Europe was marked by the installation of a new president and an espiscopal address linking the role of theological schools to the practice of Christian mission.

Each of the five Eurasia conferences held an ordination and/or commissioning in 2009. In the small Northwest Russia conference five new elders were ordained.

New York, NY, June 25, 2009--The 100th anniversary of Methodism in Russia was celebrated in St. Petersburg in an ecumenical service of worship in mid-June. The occasion also marked the 130th year since Methodism arrived in what was then Czarist Russia, in the region that is today the Baltic countries.

Dominic Ding was a lost boy from Sudan. He will be one of many refugees to tell their personal stories at an awareness event. Most Americans do not understand the complexities of being a refugee. To help educate those in the Western NY Conference, Trinity United Methodist Church on Grand Island is hosting a World Refugee Day event for youth groups on Saturday, June 20.
