Is Religion a Source of Violence? A Reflection in the Aftermath of Violence in Mumbai, India
The recent tragedy in Mumbai is personal to me. I
started out my pastoral ministry in South Mumbai,
the part of the city that was under siege. I was
appointed to serve as the senior pastor of the
Bowen Memorial Methodist Church, located right
behind the Taj Hotel. My wife, Glory, and I have
eaten in Leopold Restaurant, another site of
massacre.

'Gifting' a Heart in India
Dinesh, a 28-year old rickshaw driver, married
with two children, was living a normal life when
one day he experienced severe pains in his back
and chest. He went to the Dharmsinh Desai
Memorial Methodist Heart Institute (DDMM) in
Nadiad, a city in the state of Gujarat, India and
discovered that he was suffering from a
dissecting aneurysm of the aorta which resulted
in the separation of the layers of the aorta in
his chest. His high blood pressure had triggered
this condition. The only option left for him was
to undergo an open heart surgery.

Compassionate Ministries Abound in India
Compassionate ministry and Mother Teresa are
almost synonymous in the context of India. People
from all over the world who visit the centers she
established in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) are
profoundly moved by her work among orphans, the
physically challenged, and the dying.
