Symbols of Hope and Pain: Missionaries Gather, Share Their Ministries, Strategize for the Future
Mark Stransky brought a tape measure as a
symbol of transformation and hope. As the
director
of housing at Crossroads in Marion, Virginia,
Stransky said that volunteers and community
members find grace while repairing houses
together.
"What the tape measure doesn't measure is the
hearts of the people serving on the projects,"
Stransky said.

United Methodist Church Follows Jesus' Lead: Immigration Task Force Moves Ministry to the Borders
"Jesus learned new things when he went to the
border," said Rev. Edgar Avitia, who led the
worship in Florida for US-based missionaries of
The United Methodist Church. Jesus' continuing
education and migration to the border of Tyre and
Sidon in Matthew 15:21-28 spoke truth to
missionary Jim Perdue, who attended the
missionaries meeting on the heels of the
immigration task force meeting at the Church
Center of the United Nations (CCUN) in New York
from September 16 to 18, 2011.

Offer Dignity: All Relationships Are Messy
While at Wesley Theological Seminary in
Washington DC, Stephanie Kimec befriended two men
in her neighborhood who were homeless.
On her way to the car or Metro, "There'd be times
when I would hear my name shouted and get a great
big hug," Ms. Kimec remembered.

Christ for--and in--My Neighbor
Diné is the name chosen by the Navajo for
their tribe. It simply means "the people." I
serve among the Diné in Shiprock, New Mexico, at
Four Corners Native American Ministry--a Navajo
cooperative parish within The United Methodist
Church. Four Corners is devoted to sharing God's
love and reconciliation with the Navajo nation
through Christ-centered congregational
development and community outreach. I'm seeking
to respond to the invitation to "come and see,"
hoping to be Christ for my neighbor, and to
receive Christ in my neighbor.

Hallelujah Moment from Japan: "God Brought These Women!"
I met Tereza in one of my visits to the
detention center. She is married, the mother of
two boys aged seven and five. Alily, the father
of the two little boys, is applying for refugee
status, thus the detention. The impact of the
detention is a long struggle.
