Global Ministries Reflection and Prayer on the 10th Anniversary of 9/11
This coming Saturday will mark 10 years of the
September 11, 2001 attacks. The reactions that
followed this event radically changed our world
and the context of Mission. As we take time
together to reflect and pray we are mindful of
other instances of violence, including the recent
shootings in Norway and all the places and people
in the world who suffer violence in this very hour.

Gaza: Life Blockaded
Gaza is like a prison in many ways, surrounded
by high walls on three sides. Gun towers oversee
the free-fire stretch of scorched earth and
rubble, warning anyone--including farmers who once
tilled the land--against getting close. On the
fourth side, the west, the Mediterranean
inexorably draws the eye to the horizon; but it,
too, is forbidden.

Millennium Development Goals
Near the end of the 20th century, a decade of
planning, summits, and conferences involving
member governments of the United Nations
culminated in the UN Millennium Document. This
document, adopted by UN member nations at the
2000
Millennium Summit, serves as a multinational
commitment to reduce extreme poverty around the
world.

May 31, 2011--"With each other we can put our
faith into action and transform the world into
God's kingdom of love and justice." In a dynamic
new video, the mission agency of The United
Methodist Church (UMC), in partnership with

Children Learn About the World and Mission
The Children's Fund for Christian Mission is a
creative way to harness children's natural
enthusiasm for learning about and caring for one
another and the world. Teachers, teens, parents,
pastors, and kids in United Methodist churches
can
use the online resources to connect with children
and issues around the world.

Hope Is Here in Haiti
If you ask those who have worked in Haiti
about
the country's character, you'll probably get an
answer close to the one that Melissa Crutchfield,
of the United Methodist Committee on Relief,
recently gave me. "Haiti," she said, "is a
country
where endurance, strength, and faith are in great
supply. Haitians are resilient, tough, and they
have a fighting spirit."

Going…Staying…Where God Leads
When I was a freshman in high school, I
attended a summer camp at which noted preacher
Louie Giglio spoke. He was preaching about the
Great Commission, and the words he spoke have
resonated in my heart since I heard them. "Go,"
he proclaimed, "unless you are called to stay."
