In the Midst of Today: Black History Month
In future years, stories will be written about
the living moment when the first African
American was elected President of the United
States. I, along with many other African
Americans, have lived through the turbulent
years with only the dream of success, which is
now becoming a reality.

Mission Executive Condemns Bombing of Lebanese Village and Recalls Similar Incident in 1996
I strongly urge the State of Israel to suspend
all bombing in Lebanon and for Israel and the
Hezbollah forces to observe a total ceasefire,
assisted by the United Nations. The world can no
longer tolerate the behavior of either side in
the renewed Middle East fighting, including the
despicable Israeli bombings of civilians in
Qana.
Suspicion that a village may be “militant” is no
justification for bombing and killing 60 people
who have taken refuge in a building. Such
thinking is political and morally unacceptable.

Church Burnings Continue and Christians Must Renew Efforts, Say Leaders
When the clusters of churches were burned last week in
Alabama, the national media began asking questions about hate,
and federal officials opened investigations.
According to those who have been working to end church
burnings for years, these acts of arson raise questions about
broader issues than those portrayed in the media spin or
investigators' quotes.
