	Breaking the Cycle of Malaria and Poverty Malaria kills. It kills a child every 30 seconds in sub-Saharan Africa, and those that die are disproportionately poor. The anopheles mosquito that spreads this deadly, but preventable, illness does not distinguish between rich and poor.
