people in new ways? Or is your substance-abuse
ministry looking to partner with people in United
Methodist churches? Do you want to accompany and
care for people who are struggling to overcome a
chemical dependency, such as alcoholism? Is your
church in ministry with people who are homeless,
drug abusers, family members of substance
abusers,
or people in recovery?

Labor Day: A Faith-Filled Day for Worker Justice
Maybe you're like me and you consider Labor
Day weekend simply the last blast of summer--
back-to-school thoughts, picnics, and family
fun. But I've come to realize the holiday has a
deeper meaning. Labor Day is a legacy of 19th
century American workers who fought for and won
legal guarantees to fairness and justice in our
workplaces.

How Many Ways Can a Dollar Give? Fundraising Through UMCOR's Coffee Program
I didn't know anything about farming. I'd
never
grown anything before; I didn't even know how to
grow a tomato. I owe everything to ASPROCAFE.
They
saved my life. They trained me; they gave me
seeds

The lifelong connections. Such memories are
created every day at schools everywhere. At Red

Tell eight youth and three adult volunteers
that they will skip food for 24 hours and you
can imagine the responses! But once these
members of Madras United Methodist Church in
Madras, Oregon put their minds to it, there was
very little complaining. The B1 campaign raises

Healing Loneliness
For years I dreaded celebrating Christmas.
Due to an eviction I was separated from my
family during my freshman year of high school.
Living in a different home each week, I did not
understand why, at my age, life took such a
drastic turn. I felt so lonely and hopeless,
especially during the Christmas season. I
watched families eat, open gifts, and share
memories together. I would wish that I could
experience that same love and joy. I wanted that
feeling; I wanted my family.

What Really Matters: Alleviating Poverty Among Children
New York, NY, October 10, 2008--As global
financial markets ebb and flow, one thing
remains constant--the need to care for children.
In light of the current fiscal crisis, United
Methodists have an opportunity to affirm their
commitment to what really matters. And it's not
the state of one's stock portfolio; what matters
is the state of the world's children.
