In Mission Together Uses New Media to Connect People
I sent Patrick Friday an email, suggesting
that
we meet for breakfast in the cafeteria for a
conversation about social media and mission.
Patrick suggested, instead, we should chat, pray,
and invite others to join us at a Google+ "hang
out."
A couple of emails later, Patrick and I logged on
to Google+ for our "hang out," a four-way
videoconference with Patti Bacher in De Pere,
Wisconsin, and Mi Rhang Baek in Madison,
Alabama.

Gracious and eternal God,
We praise you because we are here.
We look and listen and know that we are part of
your church,
Multi-colored, multi-cultured, multi-lingual,

We are privileged to be present.
We praise you.

prospects: her local Methodist church, where she
became a youth leader at age 12.

Christmas Is Whose Birthday?
A few years ago, Pastor Mike Slaughter of the
Ginghamsburg United Methodist Church in Tipp
City, Ohio, challenged the congregation to
remember in their gift-making that Christmas
celebrates Jesus' birthday. "Christmas in Not
Your Birthday!" became a slogan in one of the
most remarkable examples of Christian compassion
and care in the contemporary church.

"Across the Miles" in Mission

-Isaiah, prophet of ancient Israel, told his

you as a light to the nations that my salvation
may reach to the ends of the earth." This
promise provided the theme scripture for "Across
the Miles," a consultation focused on United
Methodist mission in the Eastern Europe and the
Balkan countries.
