New York, NY, August 18, 2011--With celebratory singing and dancing, 25 candidates processed down the aisle of the Interchurch Center chapel in New York City to be commissioned as US-2s and Mission Interns by the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church.

New York, NY, December 1, 2010--The Latin American Biblical University, an ecumenical school in Costa Rica with strong United Methodist ties, is one of four seminaries in Latin America that is developing a master's degree in theology with an emphasis on HIV/AIDS ministries.

The Rev. Joyce Torres currently serves as general secretary of the Council of Evangelical Methodist Churches in Latin America and the Caribbean (CIEMAL). She began her work with CIEMAL in 1998 as the first director of its Youth in Mission program. With tears in his eyes, Bishop Juan Cardona said to me, "Lu, I don't know what you did with the people of the town, but for three years we have been having recreational activities with the children, bringing psychologists, clowns, etc., and we were never able to make them smile. When I arrived, I saw the people's happiness and I couldn't understand what was happening when today all the people laughed!"
