A typical Sunday morning worship brings a thousand Christians to worship in just one of many thriving churches in China. July 9, 2008--Christians in China are busily preparing to welcome the world as China hosts the 29th Summer Olympic Games, August 8-24, 2008. The China Christian Council and Beijing churches are making available nearly 100,000 free bilingual Gospels, New Testaments, and complete Bible editions. They will be distributed within the Olympic Village and in churches throughout Beijing and other Olympic venue cities.

Expands into Central Asian Region

The United Methodist Seminary in Moscow is opening an extension campus to provide theological education in Central Asia. The new “campus” will be located at the United Methodist Mission Center in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Courses by extension will begin in the fall of this year.

Amity will rebuild collapsed schools enabling children to resume public  education. 
Within five hours of the May 12 earthquake near Chengdu, China, the Amity Foundation, a Chinese social service organization and Global Ministries’ partner, had sent staff to the city to initiate relief efforts. By 7:00 that evening, Yue Yaomeng, Amity’s project officer for disaster programs, began to assess crisis relief.

Center for Community Development

Members of the Dumagat community meet the college students and staff as they enter the village. The Dumagat program of the Center for Community Development of Harris Memorial College is an attempt to reach out to the most disadvantaged communities in Rizal, an area below Laguna de Bay, southeast of Manila. The Dumagat people are a cultural minority in the Philippines (there are about 30,000 surviving on the islands) with their own unique language and way of life.
