Rev. Cathy Whitlatch is presently serving as the Missionary Interpreter in Residence for the Western Jurisdiction. Previously she has served as a missionary in Argentina, a missionary with the National Plan for Hispanic/Latino Ministries, and as a pastor in the Iowa Annual Conference. In Mark's account of Jesus' baptism, Jesus "saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. And a voice came from heaven, 'You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.'" God poured God's self through the torn heavens--identifying Jesus as God's own.

With a new war at our door, already announced and debated in all the media, we feel not only a deep sense of rejection, but also distress.
When and where will the insanity of those proposing to make it happentake them? In their desire to obtain total power, they are counting only their gains, not measuring the consequences.

On February 5, Bishop Nelly Ritchie of the Evangelical Methodist Church of Argentina spoke about the current crisis in her country. Expressing appreciation for the quick response that the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) extended, Bishop Ritchie said it enabled them to assist people turning to the church in this difficult time. The church community has created a barter system where they are exchanging services in absence of money, she stated. Bishop Ritchie requests prayers and continued support for the church and people as this crisis escalates.
