Roundtables for Mission
The concept of the roundtable is finding a
fresh application in the global mission of The
United Methodist Church. Although "round table"
may conjure the image of King Arthur and his
knights sitting in a circle symbolizing their
equal standing and unity of purpose, the
roundtable is also a process.

God-Given Identity First Sunday of Lent, March 1, 2009
In Mark's account of Jesus' baptism, Jesus "saw
the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending
like a dove on him. And a voice came from
heaven, 'You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I
am well pleased.'" God poured God's self through
the torn heavens--identifying Jesus as God's own.

Waiting ... For What? Advent 2007 Meditation
As Pastor to the Family Members of the
Disappeared in Northern Argentina, I frequently
waited with people – at the excavation sites of
mass graves, at court, for politicians –
listening to the memories of what had been done,
waiting for justice, waiting for the truth to be
brought to light.

wake-up call, we prepare for the mystery once
again of the King who came and is still coming.
But a call to what?

A New War at Our Door: A Statement from Pastor Nelly Ritchie, Bishop of the Evangelical Methodist Church of Argentina
With a new war at our door, already announced
and debated in all the media, we feel not only a
deep sense of rejection, but also distress.
When and where will the insanity of those
proposing to make it happentake them? In their
desire to obtain total power, they are counting
only their gains, not measuring the consequences.

Declaration of Mourning and a Call to Prayer For the People of Argentina
On February 5, Bishop Nelly Ritchie of the
Evangelical Methodist Church of
Argentina spoke about the current crisis in her
country. Expressing appreciation for the quick
response that the United Methodist Committee on
Relief (UMCOR) extended, Bishop Ritchie
said it enabled them to assist people turning to
the church in this difficult time. The church
community has created a barter system where they
are exchanging services in absence of money,
she stated. Bishop Ritchie requests prayers and
continued support for the church and people as
this crisis escalates.

Argentine bishop faults foreign debt
Looting by desperate citizens after the bank
failures in Argentina was not nearly as
serious as the "systemic pillaging" of that Latin
American country by foreign interests.
That's the opinion of Bishop Nelly Ritchie of the
Evangelical Methodist Church of
Argentina, who spoke about her country's crisis
during a Feb. 5 briefing with staff of the
United Methodist Board of Global Ministries.

children, their relatives began disappearing.
About a dozen mothers gathered in the Plaza de
