Fast Today and Change Tomorrow
In 2007, Bishop Sudarshana Devadhar of the
Greater New Jersey Annual Conference contacted
The Advance office looking for a new way to
connect the youth of Greater New Jersey Annual
Conference to The Advance, the denomination's
giving channel dedicated to mission. Two years
later, the response to the bishop's request can
be symbolized by a letter and number, "B1."

Ministries in Panama: Bridges Being Built
Almost everyone asks when the bridge will be
built. Washed out years ago in a torrent of
rain,
not uncommon in the Caribbean, the indigenous
people must bring their wares to market by
pulling themselves by rope in a basket, one or
two at a time across the Rio San Juan.

The Sudan Project Taking the Church Into the World
Ginghamsburg Church is a United Methodist
congregation in Tipp City, Ohio, a small city of
9,300 people just north of Dayton, in the heart
of the "rust belt." When the Rev. Mike Slaughter
arrived at Ginghamsburg 29 years ago, he
inherited a 104-year-old small country church on
a quarter of an acre, with fewer than 100 members
and an annual budget of $27,000.

Hallelujah Moment from Panama: What Difference Does a Volunteer Make?

about the big "fiesta" planned to celebrate the

Missionary Letter from Kenya Becoming Stronger in the Midst of Struggles
Christian greetings to you from Nairobi. As you
have been following in the news and in my recent
reports to you, the first half of 2008 has been a
time of great turmoil and anxiety in Kenya. The
wave of violence that erupted following the
December 2007 presidential elections left more
than 1,000 Kenyans dead and up to 500,000
displaced. Although the formation of a new
coalition government has led to the cessation of
violence, many thousands remain resident in
temporary shelter, too afraid to return to their
home communities.
