Mourning the Death of A Missionary Child
Ten-Year-Old Mbwizu Ndjungu Drowns in Senegal
The General Board of Global Ministries invites the entire United Methodist
family to join in prayers of comfort for the family of 10-year-old
Mbwizu "Tantine" Ndjungu. Tantine, daughter of United Methodist Missionaries
Nkemba and Mbwizu Ndjungu of the Democratic Republic of Congo, died
in a swimming accident August 31 in Dakar, Senegal. We have been informed
that Tantine was swept away by a wave while swimming at the beach with
her brothers and friends. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
In a letter of condolence to the bereaved parents, Dr. Randolph Nugent,
general secretary of the Board of Global Ministries (GBGM), said, "You
have been in our prayers and we shall always remember your strength
during these moments. You shall be held before God as ones whose lives
have been a beacon leading to Christ and who in your journey have given
of yourselves and your family that others might know of the fullness
and grace of our Lord."
The Ndjungus and their five other children, Itanda, Mufuka, Nkemba,
Ndjungu, and Mukazu, are based in Senegal along with four other missionary
families assigned there by the General Board of Global Ministries.
Their mission work is profiled in the September-October issue of New
World Outlook, mission magazine of The United
Methodist Church.
Friends and family are scheduled to gather on Thursday, Sept 10 at
the Grand Yoff United Methodist Church in Dakar for a service of prayer
and comfort in memory of Tantine. Condolences may be sent to the
Ndjungu family at Ministeres de l'Eglise Methodiste Unie au Senegal,
BP15487, Dakar-Fann, Senegal.
