Gulfside United Methodist Assembly

Waveland, Mississippi

Gulfside United Methodist Assembly is an interracial retreat facility on the Gulf of Mexico established in 1923. Founded by Bishop Robert E. Jones, the first black bishop to serve as a general superintendent of the Methodist Episcopal Church, it is a site of approximately 70 acres with eleven permanent buildings that can accommodate 150 persons for sleeping and up to 600 persons for daily functions that do not require sleeping rooms. Gulfside has been a haven for Methodists and other church and civic groups seeking renewal, relaxation, and study. In 1980, Gulfside was dedicated as the 97th historical site of The United Methodist Church.

A strong emphasis is placed on developing and strengthening leadership among youth and young adults as well recreational opportunities. It is an ideal setting for many kinds of meetings, retreats, seminars, and family reunions.
