United
Methodist Women ListServA listserv is an electronic mailing list. It provides a way for users to participate in discussions or receive information on designated topics. The software that manages or distributes these mailing lists to all of the subscribers is normally called a "listserver."
The Women's Division and United Methodist Women participants will designate discussion topics on a regular basis. They may range from United Methodist Women membership topics, to social action topics, to Christian social responsibility topics. Those who sign up to participate in the listserv will receive e-mail messages from the listserv.
How it works: one list member sends a message to one e-mail address--that of the listserv-- then the listserv sends that single message to everyone on the list so all can see it. If a person responds to a message that the listserv sent, then everyone receives a copy of that reply, even though the person responded to just one message. Listservs are a type of online forum, conference, or interest group.
We see this as an opportunity to involve United Methodist Women, and those who are interested in United Methodist Women, in on-going discussions on issues important to them. It's a way of bringing about new viewpoints and looking at many perspectives in our diverse community.
If you would like to be involved in the listserv, send an e-mail to kmartini@gbgm-umc.org with your name, your address, your church name, and your UMW unit if you belong. We will sign you up and send you more information on what you need to do to participate in the listserv. Once you're submitted to the listserv, send an introduction to yourself, a subject you'd like to discuss, or join in with the discussion.
