The epidemics that can plague families of children are not a game.
However, Educacion Popular in Salud's (EPES) has created games to train
women in the serious work of dealing with epidemics and maintaining
community health. This article explores the health problems, the
training, and the new motivation for many women.
Sue Bennett College is the only four-year, independent, co-educational,
liberal-arts based college whose campus is owned by the Women's Division
of the United Methodist Church, General Board of Global Ministries. This
article highlights the way this college is growing; its programs; and its
mission to combine academics, Christianity, and community service.
"Opening the Doors to Those Under 40" by Susan Tyler
Written by a woman under 40, this article delves into the issue of
attracting the younger generation and getting them involved in United
Methodist Women (UMW). Susan Tyler confronts the issues, suggests
solutions and ideas, and stresses the importance of all women being
involved in UMW.
Life expectancies in the United States have dramatically increased over
the last century bringing with it "responsibilities and issues that all
generations must face." This article explores the issues and
responsibilities, and looks at senior programs, like those at the United
Methodist Community Center of Omaha, Nebraska, and how they make a
difference.
"Love, Justice, and Service" by Dana Jones
The deaconess movement represents "laywomen committed to Christ through
ministries of love, justice, and service." This article explores the
mission of deaconesses in the Phillippines, throughout the rest of the
world, and the future of the deaconess movement.
"Drugs; To Prison; To Prayer; To Life" by A. Victoria Hunter
This article follows the cycle of one woman and a ministry of a District
United Methodist Women Mission Team. The cycle of one woman includes drug
addiction, imprisonment, faith and prayer with the help of the mission
team, and a new life and self-respect.
"Pedal Pushing with Style" by Dana Jones
Jeannette Augenstein, a 51 year-old from Colorado Springs, Colorado, spent
84 days this summer riding her bike across the United States. If this
isn't exciting enough, she then stopped to visit United Methodist Women
Members from Washington state to Maine and pieced together an entire quilt
while on her trek. As seen in this article, she had some wonderful
adventures, treats, and encounters on her journey.

Historically, Women's Division-supported Gum Moon Women's Residence
provided a safe haven to Asian immigrant women in transition. Today, the
residence has expanded the program. As seen in this article, the
residence has a parent-child development program and a Youth Leadership
Training program for at-risk high school students, which are both thriving.
