"Toxic Streams Flowing Down" by Dana Jones
When rain hits in Tijuana, Mexico, more than 1000 families in Colonia Chilpancingo mus contend with toxic streams from an abandoned factory above the mesa. This article looks at the plight of these families because of the environmental hazards to which they are exposed. It also explores the health effects, their fight for justice, and the questions we need to ask as Christians in a global community.
"Pesticides: Poisoning Us All" by Pollyanna Lind
When the phone rang at the Northwest Coalition for Alternatives to Pesticide, and one caller was nervous about the rash and shortness of breath she experience because of neighborhood pesticides, the coalition gave her a variety of answers and responses. In addition to these responses, this article defines what pesticides are, how they have worked their way into our daily lives, why they are dangerous, and what we can do about them.

Maria Luisa Alvares worked for seven years doing back-breaking labor picking strawberries. Her work ended when she developed cancer. Ms. Alvarez thinks the link between pesticides and her cancer is more than possible. This article is her story. It's a story of her work with Lideres Campesinas (Women Farm Workers Coalition), the health issues caused by field work, and the hope that women have to leave this work.
